Elliptical Readings

Artist Abigail Reynolds has created the Elliptical Readings series, a live artwork which has had four instalments, in Aberdeen, Wolverhampton, Plymouth, and Manchester. In each city, in a library, a small group gathers weekly for several months. They each read aloud from a book they love, the same book for the duration of the project.

After some Zoom group sessions to select the Manchester group, I was delighted to be chosen. We met every week at Poetry Library. My book was Mary Jean Chan's collection, Flèche. Reading from the poems every week helped me connect with them even more - they are queer and sensual, and look at home, language, family, and food.

It was great to get to know my fellow group members, and the books they chose, which were all so different and intriguing.

I also got a beautiful edition of Flèche bound by Abigail, with an image of my own hand on the cover. This was displayed in the Poetry Library for the duration of the artwork, and I was then able to take it home. I will always greatly treasure it.
