The Storms - ‘The squirrel and fainting’

I was overjoyed to have a poem accepted for Issue 2 of Irish journal The Storms. This beautifully-curated journal stems from the podcast Eat the Storms, on which I performed some poems in 2021.

Issue 2 of The Storms was launched three times - at Swords Castle in Co. Dublin, on Zoom, and through the podcast. I took part in all three.

My trip to Dublin was the first time I had been abroad in nearly six years, and it was lovely to see family, and to attend the launch with my Aunt.

The event was brilliant, with an electric line-up of performers, and fabulous hosting from Damien Donnelly.

My poem, ‘The squirrel and fainting’, tells of a dead squirrel I encountered in Manchester, which happened to be the same day I fainted in a theatre. The poem explores selfhood and loss, and a need to always be moving forward.
