‘Frogspawn’ comic collaboration with Michelle Freeman

One of my main dreams as a writer has always been to work with an artist to create a comic or graphic novel. I am so overjoyed that it has begun to come true, as I have collaborated with brilliant illustrator Michelle Freeman to create a mini-comic, based around my poem ‘Frogspawn’.

The poem is inspired by my Lake District hiking adventures, and explores queerness, neurodivergence, mental health, and how transformative a supportive community can be, as well as, naturally, frogs.

Working with Michelle has been so rewarding. I enjoyed the rhythm we found, and how we communicated with, and listened to, each other. I am in awe of Michelle’s talent, and the final comic surpasses all of my aspirations, with the art style really playing into the surreal and pensive, but ultimately hopeful, vibes of the poem.

We are hoping to share the comic in the future in a physical form, so watch this space!
