Young Identity: One Mic Stand, Walk for Women, and More

Young Identity is a Manchester poetry and spoken word collective, with whom I have completed a wide range of projects.

In 2019, I was selected to compete in One Mic Stand, the collective’s flagship poetry slam, at Band on the Wall. I performed my poem ‘Campfire’, about mental health and fighting against food anxiety, with a message of hope and self-love. I received really nice scores and feedback.

AndWhatTV, a poetry film project run by Nicole May of Young Identity, created a film of me performing my poem ‘Blood ghazal’ in North Manchester.

I have two poems in Volume One of Young Identity’s anthology No Disclaimers, and performed at the launch at HOME Manchester.

I was asked to perform with Young Identity at Manchester Central Library for Walk for Women 2020, to celebrate International Women’s Day. It was a lovely event, with so many different voices.

In 2023, I completed Facilitator Training with Young Identity, and am looking forward to facilitating poetry sessions with the group.
