Magma Poetry - ‘Salt and vinegar crisps in the House of God’ and ‘The attic years’

It was amazing to have my poem 'The attic years' published in Magma Poetry in Spring 2022, in Issue 83 on the theme of 'Solitude'. Magma is a journal I longed for many years to see my work in, so this was a real milestone. The poem looks back at a lonely time in my life and in my coming-out process, and how I wish I could reach back and tell my past self that things will be okay.

It was then wonderful to have a poem accepted for Issue 86, on ‘Food’, in 2023. ‘Salt and vinegar crisps in the House of God’ was inspired by eating salt and vinegar crisps at York Minster cathedral during a writing workshop, and how my experience of this activity was influenced by factors around faith, neurodivergence, queerness, and mental health. I really enjoyed reading some poems as a special guest at the launch in Glasgow.
